The New Way toRelief.Repair.Replenish.
“He will need to go on steroids.” the doctor said, in a somewhat matter-of-fact routine way, as if putting a one year-old on steroids for eczema was the most natural thing in the world. I sighed.
My little lovely son was covered in a red rash, from the head to shoulders to the hands, on both arms and legs: it was so bad that he could not sleep, and it seemed to get worse. It just appeared one day, and within a week he was agonizing and scratching his arms and legs all the time.
“Are you sure? Is there no other way?” The word ‘steroids’ itself had a sound of something final which was going to last a long time. You had the steroids, and then? What about the body’s balance? Was one going to stay on the steroid cream for another ten years?
We tried absolutely everything the doctors prescribed to us. In and out of hospital was a normal routine for us. Allergy tests, special sleep suits were given. Nothing helped for the long term. Yes the steroid based creams helped for a week or two, and then the eczema came back even more aggressive elsewhere on the body. I was determined that I did not want to take the steroids route: I am a firm believer in the wholeness of the human mind-body-spirit complex and I decided to tackle the problem in a more natural way. I had a background working in a Laboratory and decided I was going to use my skills and experience to create an effective alternative to steroid based products. On my journey I kept coming across the Neem Plant. I soon discovered that this plant had many uses. Scientific research has confirmed that Neem seed oil is non- toxic to mammals and is very effective as an antiseptic, antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, and dermatological agent. It is also widely hailed as a natural insect repellent. This oil has been used for centuries in traditional Indian medicine to aid in the healing of topical skin disorders such as Eczema, psoriasis, rashes, burns and acne. It is rich in fatty acids and glycerides and together with its healing properties, provides an excellent natural moisturizing base for skin care formulations.
I then began to source the finest and best organic ingredients I could find throughout Europe. Money was no object. I just wanted my son to be normal again. Our kitchen at home turned into something which resembled a mad scientist’s lab. It was crazy, but all I had in the back of my mind was that I did not want my son to be reliant on steroids. After several attempts I finally created the product you can see today, “Neem Creem”.
I then took the leap of faith and stopped everything the doctors prescribed. (Just researching the ingredients made my body shudder. They were full of toxins, alcohol and steroids). I applied the Neem Creem morning, afternoon and night all over. I made a few small dietary changes for him, using coconut oils instead of vegetable oils etc. Results didn’t come overnight: in fact, change was gradual and very subtle. A few months had passed since then, three, precisely. The eczema totally disappeared after six months, never to return. Funnily enough, the week it all went, a patch of psoriasis appeared on my son’s legs and back and then mysteriously disappeared the week after, as if to signal the last eruption. I might be a hippy and a new age eccentric in some people’s eyes, but I am totally convinced that my child is eczema-free today because of the action I took on body (Neem cream) and dietary changes for healing within: it was a bit like doing detective work, and it wasn’t easy to uncover some hard truths, but it paid off in the long term. In conclusion, we never went ‘on steroids’, and I am proud of the fact that I had the courage to stand by my beliefs and take a small risk. I tried nature’s route and it worked very well for us, although it might not be appropriate for every single case and illness. There are very severe cases where medical intervention and medication is the best thing. It is also wise to ask the GP if the use of complementary therapies will be appropriate.
The word soon spread and my phone went mad busy with requests from family, friends and neighbours to want a jar of the Neem creem. The results and feedback we got was amazing. So the journey began for itreatskin.
